The Magic House is having a baby! Children’s Village Hospital Grand Arrival-June 20
The Magic House recently welcomed a new addition - the Children’s Village Hospital. This interactive exhibit, sponsored by St. Louis Children’s Hospital, invites children to take on the role of healthcare workers in a pretend hospital baby nursery complete with a nurses’ station, viewing window and rows of bassinets.
The experience begins when visitors peek through a nursery window and see babies lined up in bassinets. Dressed up in a doctor coat or scrubs, young doctors and nurses will measure and weigh the babies, as well as bathe and dress them. Pretend parents will be able to rock the babies and learn the five ways to calm a baby including swaddling and swinging.
The Children’s Village Hospital is located in the Children’s Village of the museum, a unique environment where children take on the roles of members of a pretend community and explore a variety of career choices. The Children’s Village Hospital mimics the Family-Centered Care model used at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where doctors, nurses and parents all work together as partners to best meet the needs of the baby.
The Children’s Village Hospital was born as a result of a collaboration between The Magic House and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
