The Power of Collaborative Care

Immunodeficiency disorders are a group of conditions that disrupt your body’s ability to defend itself against bacteria, viruses and parasites. For kids, this diagnosis means that everyday activities like going to school, playing sports or spending time with friends can carry serious risks.

The newly established Center for Pediatric Immunology is a collaborative effort between St. Louis Children’s and several nationally and internationally recognized programs at Washington University – including pediatric rheumatology and immunology, allergy and pulmonary medicine, hematology and oncology.

Current State

Many of the difficulties faced by kids with pulmonary or immunodeficiency disorders require extensive treatment beyond the doctor’s office. To help families and caregivers manage their child’s health, St. Louis Children’s employs a multi-disciplinary team of asthma coaches, physical therapists and respiratory specialists to provide at-home education and assistance wherever needed.

The path forward

Thanks to your gifts, patients at St. Louis Children’s not only receive the best, most comprehensive care possible, they also benefit from opportunities to participate in the latest treatment protocols and research trials happening at Washington University.
