Newborn Medicine Research at St. Louis Children’s Hospital
At St. Louis Children’s Hospital, we’re committed to providing the highest quality care for our smallest patients, and that commitment begins at the research level. Together with our Washington University School of Medicine partners, we’re working to discover better ways to treat, cure and ultimately prevent diseases and illnesses.
Our multidisciplinary newborn medicine team includes more than 20 neonatologists who not only provide leading care for infants but also conduct nationally and internationally recognized research to improve medical treatment and outcomes for premature and critically ill infants. Our team is on the forefront of the human genome and microbiome projects. They are focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of development and organ dysfunction in newborns, and employ cellular, molecular, epidemiologic and clinical tools in their work.
In addition, the Children’s Discovery Institute is a world-class center for pediatric research and innovation created to encourage researchers to ask bold questions and take bold action to uncover answers.
