At St. Louis Children's Hospital, our school program has the ability to contact the patient's school to have assignments sent directly or delivered by family members. Once assignments have been received, or if assignments are not available, our school program staff creates an education plan specific to each patient's needs. If a child will remain hospitalized long-term, the Hospital School Teacher will collaborate with the patient, family and health care team to establish a daily schedule. The Hospital School Program is available to all school-aged inpatients.
Many community volunteers enhance the school program by working with patients one-on-one. Both the school teacher and the community volunteers can work bedside with patients, or, if patients are ambulatory, they are welcome to visit the school room.
