When visiting the IBD Center, patients will be asked to fill out forms that describe how they are feeling physically and answer a questionnaire that asks about their level of anxiety or depression.
After a review of medications, patients see either a gastroenterologist or a pediatric nurse practitioner for an exam and discussion of their treatment plan. Patients and their families may then see additional specialists such as a dietitian, social worker or psychologist at this same visit. When surgery is a treatment option under consideration, Children's Hospital pediatric surgeons also are on hand to meet with patients and parents.
During this visit, the Center may also arrange for IV infusions, blood work, CT scans or other diagnostic tests on the same day if necessary.
