Managing a fever at home is different when your child has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, especially if he or she is taking an immunomodulator medication (Imuran, Azathioprine, Mercaptopurine, or Methotrexate) or a biologic medication (Remicade, Humira, Cimzia).
If your child has a fever of 101.0 F or greater for more than 48 hours, contact your physician.
If you are a St. Louis Children’s Hospital IBD Center patient with a fever of 101.0 F or greater for more than 48 hours:
- Contact our office at 314.454.6173 during business hours or at 314.454.6000 after hours. We have a GI physician on call 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
- Stop the medication until further instructions from our office.
- Be prepared to bring your child into the office or ER for further evaluation.
