The pediatric hematology program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital provides care for all blood disorders, whether noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant).
Our experts can diagnose whether your child has a blood disorder — and if so, which kind — and work with you and your child to figure out the best way to treat it.
Sometimes treatment may call for your child to be seen through one of our specialty programs, like the Bleeding Disorders Center, the Sickle Cell Disease Program or the Siteman Kids oncology program. Whatever hematologic services your child needs, we have you covered.
And, when the best course of treatment is a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, it’s good to know that our program is a national leader in developing safer, more effective ways to provide stem cell transplants.
Which Diseases Can be Treated with a Bone Marrow Transplant?
Bone marrow transplants or stem cell transplants may be an option for children with:
-
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) that has relapsed (responded initially to treatment but then returned)
-
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
-
Lymphoma that has relapsed or has not responded to initial treatment (refractory)
-
Myelodysplastic syndromes
-
Solid tumors, including Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma
