At the Inpatient Heart Center, our care teams not only provide expert care for each child, but also support them and their families in a holistic way. Our supportive services and programs include:
- A Dose of Magic: We partner with the local non-profit, Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation, for a free evening of fun and education for heart families. Our event for 2020, "Take Heart," will be offered virtually.
- Beads of Courage: This program helps children tell their stories using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of hope and courage along their treatment journey. Each bead represents a milestone that the child has achieved while coping with serious illness.
- Camp Rhythm: A 5 day-4 night camp for children 16 years of age and under who have a congenital or acquired heart defect.
- Device Day: (Coming in Fall 2021)
- Heart-to-Heart lunches: We host lunches for our patients’ families with healthy food choices.
- Heart Strings: We provide bereavement and grief resources for families who lose a child, including memory-making folders and a remembrance celebration.
- Perinatal Behavioral Health Service: From pregnancy and throughout your child’s young adulthood, we offer mental health and well-being support services to heart families navigating life with a child who has a chronic illness. These services are offered in person and virtually and are partnership with the Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation.
- Single Ventricle Family Forum: A brunch event for families of patients of all ages who have a single ventricle heart defect.
- Winter and summer family dinners: We host annual winter and summer dinners to celebrate the holidays of those seasons with our patients and their families, during their hospital stay.
- We Cuddle, We Read, We Care Program: An innovative program to aid in patients’ neurodevelopment while promoting a safe, comforting place for healing. Our volunteers have undergone the necessary training to cuddle, hold, and read to our Heart Center patients.
