Intestinal duplication is a condition that consists of a group of congenital anomalies with the following 3 characteristics:
- a well-developed coat of smooth muscle is present
- the epithelial lining represents some portion of the alimentary tract
- duplications are frequently intimately attached to some portion of the gastrointestinal tract
