Some imaging tests require that we give patients medicine to help a child relax or even fall asleep. This is called sedation. Our radiology team works with specialized doctors, called anesthesiologists, and the anesthesiology team to make sure that your child receives the exact amount of sedation medicine for their body based on their age and size.
In many cases, we apply "ouchless" techniques to ease a child's fear and limit pain.
Imaging tests that may require sedation include:
- CT
- Interventional radiology
- Nuclear medicine
- MRI
- VCUGs (voiding cysto urethrograms)
