Children’s is the only hospital in the St. Louis region to rank in all ten specialties
St. Louis, MO - June 18, 2019 - U.S. News & World Report has again ranked St. Louis Children’s Hospital-Washington University School of Medicine among America’s Best Children’s Hospitals. The publication ranked St. Louis Children’s first in the state of Missouri, and among the top nine percent, or eighteenth, in the nation.
The report evaluates ten individual pediatric specialties. St. Louis Children’s was among only 24 out of 191 hospitals to rank in every specialty, and is the only pediatric hospital within nearly 250 miles to rank in all 10 specialties.
The 10 pediatric specialties are cancer, cardiology/heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology, pulmonology, neurology & neurosurgery and neonatology. Children’s programs were within the top 25 in each of the 10 specialties and in three specialties, the hospital was among the nation’s top ten: pulmonology (No. 5), neurology & neurosurgery (No. 6) and neonatology (No. 10).
“Rankings are just one piece of the puzzle. At the heart of everything we do are the children who inspire us every day,” says Joan Magruder, BJC HealthCare Group President. “It’s our mission – to do what’s right for kids – that attracts the most talented caregivers, researchers and clinicians to join us as Guardians of Childhood. To rank so highly on a national level is indeed validating as a member of the Children’s team; more importantly, it puts the city of St. Louis in the national spotlight, where we belong!”
The full rankings and methodology are available at USnews.com. The rankings will also be published in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2019 guidebook.
