St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s (SLCH) Child Life Services clinical internship program recently received a five-year accreditation from the Child Life Council (CLC). The accreditation means a program meets the basic standards set by the CLC for training students to become child life professionals.
Ten clinical internships are randomly selected each quarter by CLC, through a lottery, to be reviewed for accreditation. SLCH’s program was among the first 10 programs to go through the process. Out of the first group, SLCH was one of only two receiving full accreditation.
Leading the internship accreditation committee were child life specialists Jenny Brandt and Theresa Starkey.
With a membership of more than 5,000 individuals representing over 600 organizations worldwide, CLC provides members with professional development programs and resources, facilitates the exchange of professional knowledge and best practices, and distributes information about the needs of children experiencing stress and trauma.
