What is an orthotist?
An orthotist sees patients who need added support for body parts that have been weakened by injury or disease or by disorders of the nerves, muscles or bones.
The orthotist works under a doctor's orders to design, fabricate and fit custom-designed bracing to help each patient's mobility and independence.
Who sees an orthotist?
Children who need a cast or brace usually see an orthotist. Those who often need to see an orthotist include children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida or other deformities of the bones and muscles.
