Established in 1986, St. Louis Children's Hospital pediatric heart transplant program has given new life to more than 270 patients, ranging in age from 3 days to 22 years. The team of cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurse clinicians, nursing staff members, social workers and therapists works in concert with the family to prepare for the transplant, keep the patient in optimal health during the wait for an organ and rebuild health and strength following the heart transplant procedure.
