The Spinal Disorders Center features leading experts in pediatric spinal clinical care and research.  Physicians focus on the specific needs of each patient to determine the best treatment and rehabilitation plan.  We are a collaborative, multi-disciplinary center between Orthopedics and Neurosurgery where patients are cared for by specially-trained physicians, nurses and therapists.

Common conditions treated include

  • Spinal deformity (scoliosiskyphosis, and spondylolisthesis)
  • Traumatic injuries of the spine
  • Post traumatic fracture deformity of the spine
  • Spinal Tumor
  • Spinal Infections
  • Congenital spine and rib abnormalities

About 80 percent of children with a spine abnormality have scoliosis, most commonly Idiopathic Scoliosis. Through the study of identical vs. paternal twins, studies have confirmed strong family ties to scoliosis.

Kyphosis represents about 20 percent of children with a spine condition. Postural kyphosis is the most common type.  It is usually detected in adolescence and can be associated with slouching versus a spinal abnormality.

Pioneers in Treatment

Our physicians are national leaders in research and treatment of spine disorders.  Our program was one of the first to use MAGEC grow rods (EOS) to correct spinal abnormalities.  Based on each patient's condition and diagnosis, we offer non-surgical treatments, same day surgery, selective fusion, inpatient surgery and more treatment options.
